Shanghai architecture: reading its style(s) in the city’s history
Conférence en anglais
LU Yongyi, Professor of Architectural History in College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University, Shanghai.
Shanghai usually has been called ‘a city of world architecture expo’. When does it start to become a city with buildings in so many different styles? What kind of functions are these buildings built for? Who use them and who build them? How have these buildings changed the way of people’s life and the culture of this city? The lecture tries to help you understand these by a brief review of the early history of Shanghai as a modern city.
